Uses of Decorative Grilles

One of the main manufactured products that come out of West London based James Gilbert and Son are their metal decorative grilles. These decorative grilles are either hand woven, regency or perforated grilles. Although some uses are specific to the grill type, there are a number of common uses.

1. Radiator grilles which are inserted into radiator covers. Both the covers and the grille are bespoke and can also be fitted if necessary. Brass grilles and bronze grilles are currently the most popular.

2. Floor grilles in a variety of metals and finishes. These grilles are used to cover trench radiators, offering a decorative interior and venting solution. Currently, the most popular finishes are brass, bronze and stainless steel, which result in either a traditional or contemporary finish, depending on the customer’s requirements. All grilles are made to measure.

3. Library grilles are most frequently used in interior restoration projects. These are bespoke, hand woven grilles usually made out of 16 gauge round brass wire, although black steel and antique brass are also popular. Alternative terms for this product are handmade chicken wire and woven wire mesh panels.

4. Antique grilles used in furniture and interior restoration projects. The most popular finish is antique brass, although other finishes are available.

5. Radiator grilles for vintage car restoration and veteran car restoration. Original grilles can be restored or a new grille made, depending on the customer’s requirements.
